William is a freelance drummer based in Greenville, SC. He started playing the drum set at age 9 (following years of tapping on pots, pans, and tables) after he saw drummer Brian Haley in action at a TobyMac concert. He quickly fell in love with the instrument and learned to read and transcribe music early on.
In high school, William was accepted into the Fine Arts Center (FAC) - a performing arts magnet school in Greenville- where he studied classical percussion and jazz. During this time he also gained experience playing in church, on gigs with the FAC Jazz Combo (directed by accomplished studio musician and educator Steve Watson), and at jazz jams hosted by the Greenville Jazz Collective. He also was timpanist for Greenville’s Young Artist Orchestra and won the timpani chair for all-county senior wind & percussion ensemble. In addition to this, he taught his first private lessons in high school and discovered a love for teaching.
From there, William went on to earn a B.M. in commercial percussion from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. At Belmont he had the privilege of studying with Todd London (Todd London Trio), Derico Watson (Victor Wooten Band), Marcus Finnie (Keb Mo), and Jim Riley (Rascal Flatts). He also had the opportunity to play for Belmont’s vocal jazz ensemble, Jazzmin, and gospel / R&B ensemble, Voxology, performing with these bands in Christmas at Belmont 2019 and 2021.
William has experience in and genuinely enjoys a wide variety of styles - from R&B to country to Afro-Caribbean styles, and anywhere in between. There is also a special place in his heart for Christian worship music, as he is passionate about creating beautiful, excellent music that leads people to worship God in spirit and truth.
